Daughter
This painting started out as an effort to connect with my identity as a divine being. This is an easily lost characteristic and one that takes constant effort to remember. I let the piece develop along the way, allowing each step guide to the next. The finished piece became one about the flow that results from connecting to our Higher Power, like water regenerating every part of our being. I utilized my style to incorporate several symbols to visually explain how I feel in prayer and meditation.
I made a halo around the woman’s head to represent how when the mind turns to their Higher Power, light and peace rush in and wash over our thoughts, smoothing them out, making their natural beauty even deeper, and multiplying them.
Fruit in the hands of a woman always hearkens back to the Creation Story and the choice to open the door to knowledge by partaking of it. The fruits of the Spirit can come in the form of revelatory personal knowledge.
Peacock feather represent rebirth, hope, peace, wisdom, and truth. I wanted to find a way to represent Divinity for as many people as possible. Here, the feathers float just under the surface of a gentle stream, suggesting the fluidity of inspired thought.
The overarching concept of water’s regenerative capacity representing how drinking deeply of the Spirit can be seen throughout the piece. When this connection is broken, our spirits withers in the harsh winds of this world, but by connecting to the Source with an open mind and heart, we receive rejuvenation and flourish!
