2 Major Themes I Will Be Exploring in My Artwork in 2025
I love the beginning of a new year, full of motivation, goals, and improvements. It’s like a gift of untouched possibilities, and I’ve used this initiative to charter a course for my work this year. I am excited to focus my artistic efforts on two major themes in 2025.
Theme 1: Earth Stewardship
Why This Theme Matters to Me
Anyone who knows me understands my passion for nature. Consequently, the mountain wilderness always calls to me, and no matter the season, I must answer. In addition, I know its endangered position in the modern world, and I want to give it a voice through my work. One theme I’ve explored for years is that of a peaceful apocalypse. By this, I mean nature breaking down the constructs of man separating them from the landscape, resulting in a harmonious coexistence. Perhaps it’s a return to Eden.
Planned Series
To be more specific, I’ll be presenting my work in titled series as follows:
- A Peaceful Apocalypse: When man and nature again see eye to eye.
- In this series, I will be focusing on the relationship between man, animal, and planet. As a result, I won’t be looking at how things are, but how they could be.
- My Travels: An art historian’s view of the places I’ve visited
- In this collection of work, I’ll be focusing on the beautiful places that backpacking allows me to see and bringing them center-stage. Plus I’ll share exciting historical and current facts pertaining to them.
- Habitat: Taking a Closer Look at the beauty of ecosystems
- With these, I’ll take a microscopic look at different natural systems such as coral reefs and jungles. Furthermore, I will concentrate on the beautiful details of these microcosms.
Goals for This Series
I hope to raise awareness about the flora and fauna around us and how to improve our relationship with them. The more we appreciate something, the better care we take of it. I am excited to combine my efforts with LDS Earth Stewardship this upcoming Earth Day.
Theme 2: LDS Gospel Principles
Why This Theme Matters to Me
My faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ is the most important knowledge I have. Being able to interpret and visually share my perspective is rewarding, especially when others add their own insights. Consequently, we are taught to apply scripture to our own lives, and as the emphasis on the Second Coming intensifies, my mind naturally turns towards representing what I personally see when Christ comes again.
Planned Series
My religious work will fall into the following categories:
- Scripture Stories: How I view the gospel through the standard works.
- I will keep a journal inspired by what I study this year and use it to create paintings (for example, focusing on the D&C in Come Follow Me this year will finally help me make the First Vision painting I’ve been thinging about).
- Thinking Celestial: Understanding life from a heavenly perspective.
- I will continue this series I began in 2024, adding to concepts inspired by President Nelson’s admonition to apply a divine view to my mortal life.
Goals for This Series
These series are meant to help those who are seeking to maintain strong faith by utilizing the arts because they are a powerful way to touch the spirit and teach of eternal truths.
The Power of Exploring Art in Series
I am fulfilling a long-time goal by working in series. I bounced around previously, but my marketing classes help me hone in on the major themes I repeatedly visit. As a result, staying focused allows me to delve deeply into themes and ideas and allows viewers to more easily follow and focus. I look forward to documenting and sharing along the way! Please follow along and share any of your thoughts on these themes as it will help me gain a deeper perspective on them. Watch for updates on social media, my blog, and email newsletter!
